Honestly, if these people are harassing him/her enough, you can get the police involved. Cyberbullying is a legitimate crime that’s punishable by law. No one deserves to be in such a shitty situation, no matter how shitty they may be. I understand having an awful home life and how much of a toll it can take on your outside experiences. What can you as a friend do? Don’t fight them back. Don’t get yourself involved online, don’t give them ammo if any court proceedings follow, and don’t let it go without getting help.
